The Ant Hill Hotel is a country pub located in the heart of Mareeba on the picturesque Atherton Tablelands.
The Ant Hill Hotel stands on the site of The Carriers Arms Hotel, which opened in 1892 and was later known as Hotel Masterson.
Located just one hour west of Cairns, the hotel is a fun and friendly country pub, with great facilities and good old-fashioned service.
The hotel’s name, “Ant Hill,” is believed to be inspired by the numerous ant hills observed in the area, reflecting the local environment. It’s everything you’d come to expect from a stand-up FNQLD pub. An homage to all the classics made with love.
The Mareeba Shire Council notes that birding experts recognise the Mareeba region as the richest in Australia for birdlife.
Nearly half of Australia’s 750 bird species can be found here, and birders have recorded over 300 species within a 15-kilometre radius of nearby Mount Molloy.
The council tells us Mareeba experiences over 300 sunny days a year and is considered the ballooning capital of the world. Mareeba has a strong sense of community spirit, which sees support for traditional outback sports such as the famous annual Mareeba Rodeo held in July each year and at the Multicultural Festival held annually in August.
The skies of Mareeba are worth “visiting” as well. The Mareeba Airport is home to Heli Australia and also Scenic Flights, where you can take a flight in a helicopter or a four-seater aeroplane across Mareeba and the Atherton Tablelands.
The Ant Hill Hotel is the ideal base to explore the area.
Come in soon and say hello.
